I have a hen who is finally laying after, I am guessing, a disturbing move into her coop. She is a lovely brown layer of an unknown breed -- I have gotten many guesses.

My question is this...

Her brown eggs frequently have white specks on them. What causes this and how do I fix it?

Thanks for your responses

I figured it might be a calcium thing. I placed some oyster shells in their pen hoping it will help... We shall see!

Well, "fixing" it may be sort of tricky - that is something that naturally happens sometimes. I had an Australorp hen who laid large eggs with large white calcium deposits, then she molted and started laying medium eggs with brown calcium deposit.

It's no problem in other words, some hens just do that! Good luck with your hen - MW
