Silly swimming chickens...I mean "ducks"....I mean chickens!!

I had one of my older hens get heat exhaustion when heat index was 110. I got in the pool with her and she stood on the step while a put some water on her. After that she was fine.

I have had 3 chickens go into pool accidently and they can sort of swim, float and pull them selves out. I have heard of some drowning so it may depend on the specific bird. I had a dog that could not swim.

That is so cute! It has been so hot here that I'm sure our chickies would love to take a dip. In fact, I placed a tray of ice water in their run and caught one of them taking a water bath (some of the others looked at her quite strangely).

We fill a stain-less steel feed pan with cool water, and the chickens LOVE it. Some stand in it, and others just plop down in it. It seems to help a lot with the heat. They LOVE baths and getting blow-dried. I bet they'd enjoy a swim.
