Yes they do!!! Just last week, I had one of my favorite bantam white rocks, Rose do this. I was probably 5 minutes to late. When I walked into the kitchen, I noticed that the pool had been disturbed, and saw my little girl, face down, floating in the pool!! Let me tell you, I was devastated.

She always had a thing with floating things in the pool. Everyone, please be careful of your birds around water, they CAN'T swim! Although the pictures are adorable, I'm glad they had people there holding them. Like its always said, "Don't do this at home"

Barbara
I'm so sorry you lost your precious Rose. More likely the cause of her death was the shock, fear and panic.
She likely didn't know what to do when she was in the water like that. Our chickens on the other hand
actually do know how to swim. They are never in the pool without us, and the pictures I posted also
show the chickens without anyone holding them. Our birds trust us and we carefully and slowly
introduced them to swimming, and now they are like 3 little ducks! We are very careful and always will be.
Again, I'm so sorry about Rose. It's always heartbreaking to lose a loved pet.

Ciara-My girls get so upset when I mist them as well!! I was gone for several hours today
and therefore they weren't able to free range as usual. I set up a really fine mist sprinkler
to hit them in their chicken run at the very last 2 feet of it. I figured they could cool off as
needed. The heat index went up to 111 today! When I got home, the girls had decided
that they wanted nothing to do with the mist at at end of the run, so they had walked up
into the hot coop until I got home and let them out!!

Next time I'll know to shut the
pop door!!

You're lucky your girls like the sprinkler. Mine run from it!! I have been
misting them down a couple times a day though (pool water is up to 90
and no longer refreshing for them). I have to lock them in the run to do
it and they skwak and bawlk something horrible, but with heat index well
over 100 degrees, they have no choice!!

Hahaha. Just keep the noodles out of the pool and all is well!
That is still just so funny and these are still just the greatest pictures! I put one of my girls in a boot pan of water (think of a small litter box -- about that size) last night and she just stood there motionless like "I'm not sure what I think of this." Then she hopped out and started scratching and eating. Imagine that, a chicken pecking the ground. Kind of like a cat taking a nap or a bath. I think because she was standing in the water she didn't get the whole concept, I'm going to try again tonight with the kiddie pool. Sadly I can't let my birds out until we get a decent rain because my husband sprayed Roundup the driveway and the brick patio yesterday and put down some grub-control chemicals (ground moles all over the place). I hesitate to let the girls range for fear they'll ingest too much poison. And what they eat -- we eat in the long run!

Ughhh! I have some places in my yard that REALLY need some round up, but I keep waiting until the weather cools so the girls won't have to
stay locked up. I'll probably cave soon and just get it over with. They have a sufficient sized run, but they are soooo spoiled with their
free ranging!

I'm so happy to hear that Nicole. You won't regret it. While I was waiting for my birds to arrive, I used to go to Laura's (Buff Hooligans) page
ALL THE TIME and longingly look at all her sweet girls. I'm so glad we went with BO's and you won't ever regret it....unless you only get one,
then you'll wish you had gotten more!

I'm getting some cayuga ducks this weekend and i'm hoping that my girlies will want to cool off in the wading pool that has been in their run for weeks! Right now they just wait for us to move it around so they can get the bugs that accumulate underneath! LOL Pics are wonderful!!

Well Heather, I have resorted to locking them into their run several times a day while I
mist them down with the hose. Our pool is up to 90 degrees and not much relief for
my feathered girls any longer. They are able to stay cool that way now. I hear ya about
the heat. Our heat index was 111 today!! Phew!
