I asked someone and they said it is for both adults and juniors so I would definently take this opportunity to join the APA and get an SOP for cheap

What are the benefits to joining the APA? Since someone in the APA was rude and put down people that were not members of APA, I have realized there are more benefits to not being a member. I had planned to join, but not sure there is much benefit.

What's the benefits of not being a member?

It is more a matter of perspective. The only benefits I see for me is points that go toward master exhibitor, being able to judge, and the possibility of helping get a breed or variety recognized. If your membership lapses, all of those things go away, and you start over. One benefit is not paying dues. Another is not worrying about your membership lapsing. One is still able to show, member or not, and will still get awards, member or not. If you are not a member, and do well in shows, you negate a benefit for members, as fewer members will be able to get points, and fewer members will become master exhibitors. Ultimately, the more nonmembers that show and do well, the less benefit there is to being a member. There were a few other things, but that is off the top of my head. It would be interesting to see statistics of membership numbers of the APA over time, and also how long people remain members. It seems people are excited about poultry in the beginning, join the APA, etc., then lose interest and go away. Going to shows, and also reading posts onkine, I see people that have been involved for decades, some that have been involved a short time, and not much in between. Membership drives are one thing, and they bring short term revenue, but retention should be a concern.
