I had 3 SLWs and most everyone told me they were cockerels on here. I didn't disagree but didn't know better either. I decided to wait and see, and hope for pullets. All three did indeed turn out to be pullets, beautiful birds. I miss them very much

@sybonbon What age did your SLW's comb and wattles finally really go red? You said she laid her first egg at 18 weeks?

I ask because I bought a "Silver Laced Wyandotte" in a bin at TSC. She actually ended up being a Gold Laced Wyandotte... but gave us a merry bit of confusion as she had silver spots all over the gold during her teenage phase. But she is now 13 weeks, still with pink comb and wattles. She is about the size of my 17 week old ISA Browns. I read somewhere that the Wyandottes first lay between 6-8 months.. so I was expecting her to be the last hen I have that would finally lay an egg. If she is anything like yours ( and I am not sure how alike gold and silver are ) it sounds like she might lay in a few weeks and give us another surprise!

Just love my girl. She's my heaviest hen, like a round bowling ball. Lol

Is it common for a rooster to roost and lay down if I stroke his back? She lays alot on me. Also she is from a feed store who orders from a hatchery. I really don't think her lacing is all that bad when I've compared her to other threads. Her chest is coming in very nicely.
My silver laced wyandotte was thought to be a rooster until she laid an egg (two weeks after my other hens laid their first eggs). She grew big and is very dominant without being aggressive. She just likes to keep everybody under her control in a protective sort of way.

That first egg was a wonderful surprise as I didn't want any roosters.. And also, her lacing wasn't that great until after she started laying. She's quite stunning now.

So good luck!
