Silver Laced Wyandotte Hen Started Crowing This Morning.

I just picked up a couple of Silver Laced Wyandotte Hens (I think?). I had two 1 year old Plymouth Barred Rock hens but they really started beating up on the darker of the two SLW's. Tore about a 1" wide by 4" long block of feathers off the back of the neck along with some puncture wounds. I gave away the one BR that I thought was causing the problem. Since then the Alpha BR, which I kept, is pretty much keeping to herself. Both SLW's are staying out of her way. They are however starting to sleep together in the roost now. I used hydrocortizone 1% on their wounds and they seem to be healing. No idea how long it will take for the feathers to regrow? The interesting thing is, my wife and I both heard one of them crow like a rooster this morning. I am not allowed to have backyard roosters in my city! Can anyone tell looking at these photos what you think I may have? Thank you for any replies!

They look like hens to me. Usually roos will have more of a wattle coming in by now. How old are they? Sometimes a dominant hen will crow when no rooster is present.

They both appear to be hens, are you sure it was a crow and not an egg song? It is possible for hens to crow when a rooster is absent.

I sure hope you're right. Just never heard one crow a full cock a doodle do type sound just like a rooster. Most everyone I've asked tell me, "No...Hens don't do that". Guess some of them don't know? Thanks much for the reply.

My Wyandotte hen is very much a cock a doodle doer and we are now not certain that the other Wyandotte hasn’t started a strangled cock a doodle do and I keep telling her and them they’re bloody girls to cut it out They definitely have you racing out - so dominance over me also to hush who can ever one down. It’s not every day or even every week thank goodness but ugh that’s all I need is a complaint from the neighbour and me trying to explain I have a chicken with an identity crisis
