Silver Laced Wyandotte personality

Just under two months ago I got a mixed flock of seven chicks. One of my chicks is a SLW and I couldn't be happier! She is so sweet and has integrated herself perfectly into my flock. One strange aspect about her is that she enjoys standing on my head...

I'll bend down for one second to grab something and *hop* she'll jump onto my head. She also enjoys cuddling and will lay down in my lap for a quick nap.

When it comes down to it, I believe chickens are sorta like children... as creepy as that sounds. I've had over fifteen different breeds from different hatcheries and as long as I let them sort out the pecking order and give them lots of love, they all turn out to be sweet and friendly chickens. Just keep handling them and let them fight (as long as it doesn't get bloody) and they'll turn out to be great!

I have a mixed flock of 12 chicks, including one SLW. She is very sweet and 6 weeks old today. My only problem is that I am hoping that she IS A SHE! We are in an area where we can't have roosters, and I was told when she was less than 4 weeks old that she "looked like a cockerel" to a friend of mine. Her name is Lacey. Here are some pics of her at 4 weeks old, and I'll try to get a recent one too. Any opinions as to this chicken's gender? (I have to admit that I see a lot of red in her comb/waddles now.)

We've got 4 SLW's from an aggressive SLW roo and a red Wyandotte hen who is #2 hen in our flock of 10. The three incubated 'bowlingballs' (fat birds!) were friendly when young but cautious at 6 months and the hen-raised fourth has always been skittish. They all whine in the most annoying loud voice if they aren't getting the very best constant treats. You almost don't want to give them scratch because of the whining, though it is funny. We call them whine-dottes. They are gorgeous. A fifth is turning out to be a roo with a blonde hackle and he is aggressive. At 2 months he would come up and peck me on the foot for no reason and can not be budged to shoo away sometimes. The bowlingballs will still sometimes jump onto my lap for treats.

Mom, the red wyandotte is the undisputed beauty queen of the flock and she knows it. She has never molted or had a single feather out of place. After raising 2 broods in a row back to back, she's mellowed out about handing quite a bit. #4 SLW took over raising her mom's second brood at only 2 months and has been a great nanny/babysitter.
