Silver Laced Wyandottes

BTW mine originally came from Cackle Hatchery and I heard from another BYC'er who has SLW's from Cackle that hers have gone broody. If you are thinking about buying chicks from your feed store, they are probably buying them from a hatchery and reselling them. You could call them and ask. If you are just looking for a layer, I agree with Illia, hatchery stock is fine but honestly I haven't been impressed with the amounts of eggs from my Wyandottes. This might change as the days get longer and warmer so we will see. I do have to say that they have been very healthy birds, so absolutely no complaints there.

Mine came from a local feed store 8 yrs ago. They laid like machines and were very friendly. I have only one left but she is Still laying an egg ever other day in her yellow wheelbarrow!

Ours are from Foley's and are very friendly, like to be held and are show quality-We love them! The pullet is still a bit too young to lay yet, so I can't comment on the broody issue.

I bought 4 day-olds this time last year. One is a SLW. She was purchased at the Urban Farm Store here in Portland, Ore. She started laying eggs at about 5-6 months and has been a consistent layer. She is my first and only to go broody, which I had to break her of. In her broody state, she never pecked at me when I would remove her from the nest and stick her in "chicken jail". She is my ornery one and my least sociable. She prefers to keep a 6 ft. radius from humans, but she's pretty, friendly to the others, quiet, a consistent egg layer, and will make a good mother one day soon. We love her.
Luckily, I have my Black Australorp and Buff O to pet and hold.

Of course, I don't think mine are going to look as good as Katy's but I am still excited. I also would like to add a RBLW to the flock!
