Silver Laced Wyanndottes

I ordered some of these from idealpoultry in texas. One of my roosters and one of my hens have single combs. Does anybody know of a breed that looks like the Silver Laced Wyandotte and has a single comb? Or did i just get a hen and rooster with a genetic defect? The look absolutely like Silver Laced Wyandottes except for the comb.

If i do have a couple of sports as i think they are referred to could i not use them to start a line of single combed silver laced birds?

Sounds like you just got hatchery quality birds. Hatcheries don't breed to the standard of perfection, so you probably just got silver laced wyandottes that have single combs due to poor breeding practices.

You could use them to try to start a line of wyandottes with single combs if you want to work on that as a project, but with them being from a hatchery it would take you a long, long time to get them to anything resembling the breed standard, most likely.

Well i was wondering if i should even try something like that. I've seen threads about them but i never saw where anyone ended up with a rooster and hen...they always had one or the other. Since i only have one of each would i need to try and get another hen or rooster to keep from breeding to closely with the offspring?

Would any body happen to know what other breeds besides the hamburg and brahma were used in the making of the wyandotte? Im wondering if the single comb is a genetic mutation from the lines being bred to close at the hatchery or if it is a rare through back to a breed that was used in the making of the wyandotte?
