I have 2 Silvers Sebrights (1 Roo, 1 hen) and a black cochin in a run next to my 7 other standard hens. I tried putting them together but my Roo would try to take on the standards & almost die trying! So I have kept them separate. My roo has never been aggressive to me or anyone until last week. All of a sudden no one can go near the gate without him going nuts! I opened the door to change the water and he came at me over & over. I noticed an egg in the run and was able to retrieve it. (not without having to swat at him a few times) then he seemed to calm down a little. When I went out later, the sebright hen was laying & he was a pistol again. When I went out to get her egg, he was a lunatic! Got that egg but he has yet to relax. Does anyone think that he has all of a sudden gotten like this because the 2 hens are now laying? He was never like this before they laid any eggs. How can I dter this behavior (can I?) I really adore him but can't have him attacking every time I go in to change food/water & retrieve eggs!
