Hey there BYC,
We recently wormed out flock after adding 3 new hens in (we quarantined and did a 2 week look/don't touch approach) because we saw worms in one of their droppings. We could not ID the worm type so we went and got Safe-Guard (Fenbendazole) and treated the ladies according to dosing instructions I found on here (.23ml/lb of bodyweight) Through my research here I saw if the worms could not be ID'd that 5 days of medication should suffice and that for roundworms its typically a dose on day 1 and a follow on dose at day 10.
My question is, how long should we continue to see worms in their droppings for now that our course with the de-wormer is done? It's been about 48 hours since our last dose and I still see some in a few droppings here and there. Obviously de-wormer will force the worms to be passed out the system but I am wanting to be sure we knocked out the parasites that were making themselves at home in our ladies. Should we do a follow on dose at the 5 or 10-day mark since I assume that worm eggs could get picked up again somewhere or are the hen's system now worm resistant for some time?
