Simulated Natural Nest Incubation~Experiment #1 So it begins....

Very much since I really could have saved him by getting his head out but I didn't want to do anything to son but since the other two internally pipped yesterday morning I should have known...
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that...

Don't kill yourself over it, it's not your fault.

A couple of the eggs have a dark, sloshy look to them that they didn't have before....and I can't really see a chick moving any longer. Is it safe to say those chicks have died? I did the 14 day candle last night and all air cells are at the appropriate size, it seems. All the eggs but the two mentioned have good chick movement in them.

What causes the death of a chick at that late stage? Bacteria?

If these are indeed bad, that will take me down to 16 good eggs in this hatch.

Just checked my book Bee. I doubt its nutritional in your case so perhaps it is part of your incubation method... and I'm not criticizing. I admire you for what you're doing there. My book says chick death at days 12-18 could be caused by temperatures being too high or low, poor ventilation, and/or incorrect breeder ration... but you said you're airing them out daily. Did you remember your day 13 heat spike?

I'm far from an expert and these are from a book. Just trying to be helpful in finding answers for you.

I'd wait and see...sometimes day 14 they are not moving quite so much. I have had several who were moving day 10 then not moving day 14 but hatched.
