Why do some roosters sing the egg laying song? I have one that seems to be going around doing that often. He is 13 weeks old as well as all his hens.

Yeah, some of them seem to like being in the cheerleading squad. Like they think the hen needs the encouragement, or maybe are announding being proud papas.

Who knows why chickens do what they do....

What I find so funny is no one is laying yet and he was the first (as far as I know) to start walking around, pacing back and forth, just singing away... I love it but it is rather funny. Maybe he is trying to rush the girls, they are all 13 weeks, so not quite ready.

Eggzactly...oops, spell check! lol.
What often cracks me up, not only that egg laying song, but how they show the girls where to build a nest/box is. I caught 2 bantam pullets and the roo in the standard size nest and each hen had an egg under her and Scooter was on over the golf ball!

Wish I could have snapped that picture!

Wow I didn't realize he would do that, I have their boxes covered because I didn't want them to get in the habit of sleeping in them, I have been waiting to get them use to the roost but maybe I should uncover them so HE can show them.

in my experience hens don't need a rooster to show them where to lay, it seems to me that since a rooster feels he needs to boss the girls he will even act like he needs to direct them also! Sometimes the girls will want him to leave them alone, same as us human girls want our roosters to leave us alone once in a while
