My daughter rescued a baby guinea fowl from a friend who bought baby chick's and didn't know the difference. The friend didn't want it and since we have raised many little chick's and turkeys my daughter brought it home. We have always raised batches on chick's never just one and no guineas.
My question and worry is that it sleeps all the time day. Most of the time curled up with my 15 year old daughter. He woke up to eat and drink 2 or 3 times within 12 hours and is somewhat unresponsive when trying to wake it up. Is this normal? It doesn't seem normal to me. Please help.

Would chick starter cause him to be so lethargic
Chick starter does not have the protein, lysine, methioniine or niacin levels that a keet needs for it's rapid growth. It is being malnourished on the chick starter and yes malnourishment can cause lethargy among other things.

He definitely needs more protein. I just added 2 keets and they eat like crazy. Try a little scrambled egg. Mine love that. Maybe it will perk him up and get him motivated to eat.
