Single comb d'anvers? Feather legged orloffs?

Hi everyone,

After a brutally long day trip I picked up my new baby birds and I'm so happy. They are all cute and in good health. I was supposed to get only four but chicken math happened and I ended up with seven... like ya do. Three quail Belgian bearded d'anvers, two bantam salmon faverolles, and two Russian orloffs.

I'm posting some photos because they're stinkin cute and also to ask about some features a few of them have.

Two of my d'anvers have rose combs but one has a single comb. None have feathered feet. Both of my orloffs have feathered legs but no feathers on the toes.

What does this mean?

d'Anvers will occasionally throw a single comb. Long ago singles were included for a multitude of reasons, and since rose combs are dominant over singles, they can hide the single gene. When two of those breed, they can throw a single.

I’m not sure that purebred Orloffs ever have feathered legs?! I too have an Orloff and legs are yellow/no feathers. There’s not much info out there on this breed. I’ve been scouring the net reading anything I can about them. They’re really cool birds.

Yeah I'm kinda stumped. I found one resource that says feathers on legs is not a disqualifier for show and a couple feathers on toes is even okay. I'm not sure what to think. I also don't think these babies are going to have the profuse muff and neck feathering I hoped for. Their face feathers are much shorter than my faverolles and d'anvers.

Murray McMurry sent me some years ago so had rose combs. They are sweet chicks, I had a hen that would fly onto my shoulder like a pirate parrot.

At this point from that bunch of chicks only 2 were pullets and the rest were males that I unfortunately was not equipped to keep and found new homes. All 3 d'anvers were roosters, one orloff was a rooster, and one bantam salmon faverolles was a rooster. I kept one orloff and one bantam salmon faverolles. Let me know if that helps!

Thanks for the update. Sorry you got so many cockerels. Would like to see the 2 pullets you ended up with. Of the 48 chicks (47 assorted unsexed bantams and 1 Salmon Favorele pullet) from Ideal Poultry I ended up with about 50% of each sex. Have only been able to sell 7 of the cockerels so far. Got a single comb blue quail d'Anver cockerel that is much darker than the pullet, she looks more like a buff or fawn color, almost the same color as the buff Sebright pullet. My Salmon Faverole pullet barely has any feathers on legs/feet and still has no beard at 11 weeks old. I even got a couple of single comb Silkies, and unfortunately, most of the Silkies turned out to be male.
