Does anyone know if this is a sinus infection that needs to be cleaned out? The bump does not seem painful to her, she doesn't show any other marks on her body. I examined her thoroughly this morning. Her nostril is definitely clogged. Is it recommended to clean it out? The other nostril is also inflamed a little. Her eyes are not swollen, no discharge anywhere that I can see. She is old and wrinkly but I don't see any other bumps anywhere on her. I sprayed Vetricin on both nostrils this morning. Will this resolve on its own or does it have to be cleaned out by me? She is active and eating and free-ranging but coming out of the coop a little later than normal. I think she wants to sit in there a little longer under the heat lamp every morning. She's 9 years old and I'm not sure what to do. She's not very tame so catching her is stressful to her. Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

Her nostril has what looks to be nasal canker. That is where mucus, feed and even dirt can get stuck and become hard like concrete. She cannot breathe normally through it. You can drip some warm saline onto the nostril to help soften it. See recipe for saline below or you can get it from the store or pharmacy for nasal flush. To treat it you will need either a wooden orange stick or toothpicks, a QTip, and a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide to sit on the nostril for a few minutes. Then try to gently clean a little of the stuck material out daily with the wooden toothpick. The nostril can be damaged if you use too much force or metal picks, so be gentle and do it in several treatments. You may want to wrap her in a towel or blanket like a burrito when working on her.
Home made normal saline:

Dissolve 2 tsp to quart or liter of water, or 1/2 tsp of salt to an 8 ounce cup of water. Heat in in a sauce pan to boil for a few mintutes, then cool it and store in a clean jar. Use it slightly warm in the nostril.

Thank you, I do the burrito thing whenever I catch her and it does help her a lot. Poor little thing! I will try to figure out a gentle way to work on her. Thanks again!
