I am not pro-polygamy, especially the way many of these fundamentalist Mormons practice it, but it does make a certain economic sense. You can have two or more working adults supporting a household and children. As extreme as some home sizes have gotten, and with stagnating incomes it may become more of an option. It may be just another way of looking at communal living but with "priviledges".

Most of the guys I see on these things creep me out. But then the Duggars creep me out too, and some people think the are model parents and are to be admired in every way.

i watched the show..............its true....i watched it. and that guy seems weird. he seems greasy to me, if you know what i mean. my dh sad he seemed like he was trying really hard to put on a show. and the one wife, the first one , seems to have some underlying resentment, that only comes out in teeny little drips, but i think its like the hoover dam, and when she blows its gonna be carnage. plus the #2 wife, the big gal, she seems kinda weird too, i dont know what it is, i cant put my finger on it, but shes weird. like when she said its great theat the one stays home and takes care of all 12 kids for her so she can go out and go to a movie and have a life. i didnt like that.
and then there is the one at home, is she the only one that cares about the kids?
its all a mess! i have known polygamists, some weird, some not, sometimes it works out, but its DEFINATELY not for me, and my dh says, NO WAY one wife is ENOUGH for me!

but there is something creepy about this set up in this family, and not just the mormon thing.

It seemed like everyone in Phoenix was hiding a friend or relative. In school, they made all of the kids write out a list of who was living in your home and how they were related. Of course, we knew enough to lie right through our big buck teeth.

I don't know of any women that ever left her husband's side after they got out of jail. However, a lot of them emigrated after that to countries that actually practice religious freedom.

i think mormonism is a cult, but ive known mormons, and the polygamy isnt the problem, its there whole mormon ideal and doctrines that are scary, if you really meet an exmormon who became a christian, ask them.
i am a christian, and i know its not popular it but theres plenty of polygamy in scripture. king david, abraham , jacob, an awful lot, but i digress. and thats not the point here.
the point is that this guy is out for a quick buck! this one guy is creepy! and the women seen strange too.

I won't be watching the show mostly because I don't watch a lot of TV but I have no problem with polygamy whether it's for religious, economic or just plain emotional reasons. What two or three or 12 CONSENTING, age appropriate ADULTS decide to do behind closed doors is not my business so long as my tax dollars are not supporting their lifestyle.

Did you know that some (or at least one) of the moderators are Mormon? Best be polite.

I had a friend (Mormon) who's mother was once a second wife in a polygamous relationship. He was quite 'normal', in terms of what society thinks is normal, nothing cultish about it, though there are cults of all religions.

That said, any man who thinks he is ENTITLED to many women, I agree is rather 'greasy', no matter the religion or beliefs.
Maybe the women have been brainwashed over time, maybe they aren't and just like their lifestyle, either way, nothing we can really do about it.

Maybe it is better not to impose one's personal beliefs upon others. Live and let live. As long as it does not effect me taxwise, I could not care less how they lived.
