Sitting hen

Will a hen tend to sit on an egg when there is no rooster?

I have three hens that tend to sit on the eggs, but I also have three roosters, so I think it is just something some chickens like to do!

I think hens will even sit on golf balls or other types of fake eggs.

It's just instinct. I don't think they know which ones might be fertile and which are not.
