Sitting in Pakistan - Trying to Find How to Import Hatching Eggs

Hello Everyone! I have been scanning different websites of hatcheries to see whether anyone would be willing to export hatching eggs safely to me here in Pakistan but met with no success yet. Would anyone of you be able to guide me regarding how I could obtain such eggs? I am willing to make advance payment.

Hiya!! Glad to have you here!

I'm not sure about exporting eggs to you, but I know in the US we're on lockdown from importing any, due to the whole novel bird flu and various other security fears. I'm not sure how well the eggs would take that kind of travel, either. I suppose I could ask my Post Office just to find out what they'd say! I haven't any hatching eggs, but I might be able to get an answer for you.

Anyone from another country out there have any ideas?

There have been other people from Pakistan asking these questions Shahnawaz,

I dont think they had any success either.

I know from the UK it is very difficult and you have to be registered with a lot of govt agencies to even be considered to be able to export and due to the care required to ship eggs I think most places would feel that the likely positive outcome would be so hit and miss that they do not attempt.

What eggs are you looking for?

Check Dunlap Hatchery in Caldwell, Idaho. In their website their claim to have shipped poultry to many countries.

I do not know about eggs. I do not know if they still do it. Contact them. I haven't seen any other hatchery in the US that ship eggs or chicks internationally.

You can check UK or another european countries hatcheries.

I dont think Dunlap Hatchery can help with that kind of shipping. Besides it is too far and it would take up to a week to get there! Certainly dead chicks!

Thank you for the replies. I am only interested in importing hatching eggs and not chicks. The breeds I am interested in are mainly ornamental. Phoenix is one breed I would definitely want to acquire and also some standard versions of Polish and Sultan. While Polish is available here in Pakistan, it is still rare and in a very small variety of colours.

Do you think eggs can be taken in the airplane as accompanies baggage? I mean taking two dozen or so eggs with me in the accompanied hand bag.

Not sure, you may want to check with the airlines, but I would guess that most countries would NOT let such items through customs. Anyone know for sure?

i doubt they would b able to tell i would pack them up real good and then put them in ur main bag

Your best bet is to find a member here on BYC with Hatching eggs who is willing to Fed Ex them to you (its no skin off their nose if you prepay for their eggs and some shipping)

World wide most countries have lists of countries which they will allow imports from (they are generally trying to stop the spread of newcastle etc..), but even under these circumstances the eggs need to be from certified flocks stamped by vets and notarys ad infinitum it ends up being very expensive. However.... I know of members here on BYC who reside in the US who have had eggs shipped to them from Britain within the past month. It was a craps shoot, but they made it through customs unnoticed.(I also googled an article recently about a guy in Australia who was fined AU$4,000 when he had eggs shipped to him from the US)

No country cares what is exported in the way of eggs so you wont have to worry about US laws. You only need to concern yourself with whether or not Pakistan will allow you to import eggs from the US. The answer is that they probably officially wont allow you to do so, However having lived in parts of Asia I would say that your situation is much more fluid. Im sure that with a little Baksheesh you will receive your eggs.

So basically you will have to be willing to pay a bit more for eggs and shipping, but it wont be prohibitive(my guess is that Fed ex will overnight a box of like 10 eggs to Pakistan for maybe $50) You should figure out the drill on your end (contact local officials etc and be willing to grease a few palms) and lastly you should probably realize that it all might work the first time, but you might have to give it a few tries before you get eggs and get eggs to hatch.
