Hi everyone I thought I would give you guys an update! My flock has been officially combined for about a week now! I wound up find a local vet that specializes in chickens and had my entire flock tested for everything you can test a chicken for(it cost a pretty penny but was worth it to me) and got the go ahead to start integrating my flocks together
we decided to buy pressure treated lumber and not set the coop up off the ground, we are almost finsihed with it and the run extension! I'm honestly not even sure why I'm extnding the run as my chickens expect for the quarantine period free range every day
I work from home so they rarely if ever are actually up in the run. I'm currently looking at deep litter method and I think I've decided on sand with Horse pellets expanded and spread out, we did go with this nice fancy tin instead of Plywood! I found this super cool insulation called Bubble insulation that helps prevent against condensation and extreme temperature fluctuations in metal building I'm planning to add to the inside. All we have left is to cut a door, Put wire on the gaps we left for ventilation, add roost and best boxes and the bonnet for predator protection.
My last question for you guys is how deep would you personally go for the Bonnet? I'm thinking a foot deep on the part that's attached straight down on the coop bottom and then 8 inches under the ground on the part that spans outwards? Does this sound appropriate? We dont really have any major predators where I live except possums, and mice/rats but we have three cats that take care of any mice and rats. I dont have to worry that much about Hawks and Flying predators because we have a is it called a Murder of crows? And I've read crows and ravens will attack birds that invade their property but I'm also looking into predator protection for the skies like a turkey. We also have a trained guard dog that considers the chickens a part of the family and would protect them or me with his life. Anyways lol here is a photo of what I've gotten finished so far! Dont mind my gate were replacing it will an actual gate in a few days as well as extending the electric fence that I had already taken down in this photo. I'm also replacing their current fencing with hardwire cloth as when I first made their fence I didnt know Chicken wire wasnt appropriate fencing for runs, which is when I got the electric fence to go around the outside lol also heres some photos of my flock!
