Six Double Yolkers

Double yolkers happen when the girl's body releases two ovaries instead of one. It is more common on young hens because their egg production system is still maturing. However, I did hear that some Amish raise chickens that give doubles regularly. Interesting.

Young hens tend to lay more double yolkers. As they age, their eggs get more consistant - same size, color, etc. When my hens are young, you tend to get doubles AND I can usually spot them because they are unusually large (like a small goose egg!!), so, if someone had a lot of young hens and picked out the giant eggs, you might be able to get a bunch of them in a box. Dont forget that you could candle them to see too! Sounds like a set up to me.
