Will extending the hardware cloth six inches as an apron be enough to stop critters from digging?

six inches of apron a few inches below the ground probably, six inches a foot below the ground most definitely. I dug down about 1 foot, I figured woodchucks don't eat chickens, that's about the only critter that will dig that far... everything else.. raccoon, fox, etc will dig and hit the mesh and say..."scew this".. tipping over a trash can for a meal is easier..

What about above the ground, like attached to the bottom of the run? Not buried

Some folks run mesh all way under..cover it w dirt..that will certainly work. Id burry it. Dig a ditch staple say 2x4x8 pt wood to it drop in ditch cover it up.will keep it from coming out. When i say staple means narrow crown 19ga staples w air gun..best way..
