Our d'uccle and OEGB bantums (5 total that gave us about 8-14 eggs a week total) were laying soooo regularly up until The end of November that I was planning all kinds of cool hor'deurves with the bantum eggs for Christmas parties. Then, without warning, nada, nothing, zilch, zip - no cute little eggs to cook with.
Our LF are still laying 12-16 eggs a day from 29 LF hatched late March and late April. Compared to 22-24 eggs daily from same LF group in the fall with longer daylight and at that time, i dont think all of the EE were laying yet. But we are 0 for 5 for over a month with the little girls.
That being said, when we get new birds in the spring, I will get more bantums, one, they are cute, two they don't eat much, and three, they round out my flock as cute "eye candy.". And while I consider our birds farm animals, and not pets, I love the color variety, size, their slight flightiness, I just really think the bantum eggs are adorable too!
Add to that that I would like to hatch out some eggs naturally, I am hopeful the girls will brood for me.
So, hang in there, I'm confident you'll get an egg eventually, but not til longer daylight.
