I have some Hyline Browns and have been wanting some leg bands.
The probem is, I don't know what they're classified as. Small chicken? Medium chicken? Probably not large though...
They weigh about 4.5lbs.
Also. how do you measure for the bands?

I don't know how the bands characterize their chickens, but I would consider a 4.5 pound bird to be a mid size.

On the lower end of the scale, you have your seabright hen at about 1.5 pounds and your silkie hen getting around 2-3 pounds. This is what I would call a small.

On the higher end, you have the Jersey Giant that clocks in at 10 pounds for a hen or 13 pounds for a roo. This is what I would consider large.

Medium chickens would get the 5/8" (just under 16mm), so that would likely be a safe place to start. If they start looking a little snug, I would upgrade them to the 11/16" (about 17.5mm), but they shouldn't need anything bigger than this.

*Barred rocks look to be about 6.5 pounds for female and 7.5 pounds for male. Putting them kinda between medium and large in my opinion, but I would probably lean toward calling them medium overall.
