sizzle, frizzle, and frazzle???

Just got this little one a week ago. I wasn't expecting to get a frizzle but I am SO excited! Her feet are feathered so, grizzled Cochin? She is. Bantam.

No, Sizzles are a project breed. They should have normal barbed feathers instead of hookless silkied feathers. They come in frizzled and smooth.
A frizzled Silkie is just that, a normal looking silkie feathered Silkie with frizzled feathers. I call them Frilkies :)

I also noticed everyone "dissing" the poor frazzles ( :gig ). While I would NOT intentionally breed frazzles, they are an excellent tool for a frizzle breeder since ALL of their offspring will be frizzled.

Get this....
I was helping at the county fair poultry ID day (everyone has to list the breeds they are showing and get bands put on). My friend (who I thought was pretty knowledgeable about chickens) picked up a frizzled bird yesterday at our local swap (I was thinking cochin but didn't get a close look at it). I asked what she listed it under to show and she said, "frizzled". I said frizzled what and she showed me the breed listing that just said "frizzled". Then I asked if her bird was a bantam and she said it must be because frizzled only comes from silkies and they are bantams! She was telling me that no standard frizzles are recognized. I didn't want to argue with her right there so I just kept my mouth shut. I may or may not bring it up later. It's obvious all of her chicken knowledge comes from 4H.
I do a ton of research so I know the truth about frizzles and I just couldn't believe that they listed "frizzle" under the bantam breeds!

I originally looked at this thread because we bought some silkie chicks from a recent breeder and ended up with a smooth sizzle and a frizzle silkie. Not what we expected but happy with the outcome.

I have 2 cochins that were supposed to be frizzles, but they have bare skin showing on most of their bodies. They have the frizzled feathers on their wings, but looked naked elsewhere. Will they grow feathers as they get older or will they stay naked? They are about 6 weeks old at this time.

They are a result of breeding a frizzled bird to another frizzled bird. They will not grow many feathers.

Any reputable breeder of cochins would not do this breeding. It's friizzled bred to flat feathered birds to get good feathering.

Since they're just 6 weeks old, I'd give them some time to grow. Cochins are s-l-o-w growers. My frizzles seem to take extra long.

If they've got bald patches as adults, then worry about them being frazzles (double dose frizzles).

I bought some silkies a few weeks ago and while I knew she had sizzles, she said she separated those out and only offered me silkies. Turns out I got one frizzled silkie and one smooth sizzle (F18!). She was surprised when I told her what I had and wanted pics (as if I could somehow mistake a smooth sizzle!). I think she would've sold her to me for a lot more had she known what she had. ;)
