I got this little one from TSC. I thought I brought home a Silkie, now I am wondering. I mean, I doubt it's a sizzle, but what is going on with it's feathers? Angel Wings? Is it a Sizzle?

I will say, this little one has been through quite an ordeal already. This is the little guy my husband sucked up the shop vac (I have many names and choice words for my husband's lack of common sense - but we are not going there). I thought it was a goner, but I left it recoup for a little while and luckily the poor thing only had a limp which is now completely healed. So, if it is a Sizzle, I won't be upset. I already named it Vittles and whether it's a roo or a pullet, it's staying.

Shop Vac!?? Oh My!!! And I have no idea if it is a sizzle, sorry! My silkie had messy looking feathers for a while, but it does kind of look a little frizzleish.... GOOD LUCK!

Yes. Shop Vac. I use it to clean out my brooders. I just got the Silkies the day before and I was building a larger cardboard box brooder to hold 10 SSs, 2 TTs and the 4 Silkies. I had to combine 3 boxes and I knew he couldn't be trusted with that chore. So, I figured running a sweeper wasn't hard. Now, he's watched me take all the 4wk and younger Bantams and the 1wk and younger standards out of my brooders before I vac it out. I mean, you can see that they can fit up the hose. Plus, I don't want the bigger ones trampling on them. Nope, he didn't want to touch them, so he left them in there! I was so mad at him! He's calling the chick stupid and I'm calling him the stupid one! Who here has higher brain function (I really pondered that hard afterward...)?!

Anyways... It lived. No serious damage, so the husband was lucky. He lived to deal with the "crazy chicken lady" another day.

Maybe it is just feather trauma from the shop vac! Bad husband --BAD!! That really is funny, I mean seriously, what was he thinking?? !!

I thought that too, that's why I'm asking. The only thing that made me think maybe I got a Sizzle that he had no wing feathers at all - was a day old when I got it (got it the day it came into TSC) and the very next day it got sucked up. I didn't know if the trauma could hurt feathers that aren't there yet, basically.

Ok... I don't really have anything to add about your chicks feathers other than they can have odd looking feathers when they're growing. I had one that had "curly" feathers at first then they went to normal silkie feathers. Being from a hatchery I doubt it'd be a sizzle, but awesome if it is!

Second... I laughed (ONLY laughed because Vittles is ok

) and wondered how on earth you wet vac a chick?!! Sounds like something my husband would say... It wasn't MY fault the chick didn't move!

-eye roll- That is exactly what he said... "It's not my fault the stupid thing didn't move!"
As long as he keeps financing my obsession, he can stay... Or, that's the rule for now.

If it was a sizzle the feathers would be slightly curled outwards not upwards. As the feathers get longer they curl more and the other feathers that grow out do the same. I'm betting yours is shop vac trauma. (bad hubby..bad..bad)

These are older but you can see how the feathers curl up.

Thank you very much! I figured Vittles wasn't a Sizzle - like I said, that's fine. I was seriously starting to question the curl though.

Now I can pick on my husband! "Dear, he's so afraid of you, you make his feathers curl!"
