Our first batch of Chicks now 12 weeks old are sweet and like attention. The second batch of chicks who are moving into their coop this weekend act like I am killing them when I try to touch them or give them attention and fly around the cage. I treated them the same. Talked softly offered my hand to step onto - The two orig girls always loved to be held.
My original two are GLW
The new ones are 3 SLW (one is a roo - still not sure which) and One barred rock.
Could it be that they are just high strung? I did treat them the same. - They also peck at me now! Esp one of the SLW that I suspect is the roo! If he keeps it up, I have no problem with fattening him up for dinner and serving him with a nice glass of chardonnay
I know it sounds like I have hurt feelings - maybe it is true. I was hoping for more cuddly snuggly chickens and I want them to be able to trust me so I can handle them when needed.
Should I not worry about it. They are going into a catawbe A frame coop so I won't be having to actually enter the coop. We have too many "free range feral/ stray cats around to let the chickens really free range and birds of prey, raccoons, and other critters. It is just that all my animals are laid back and easy going and I am concerned that these guys are nervous and skittish and if they get out they are gone! I don't think they will come to me.
Is it breed? SLW - I heard they were nice!
Could the skittishness be due to the rooster - I thought they were suppose to be sweet as babies.
