Skydiving

Not me!! And I have no desire to but my DH was Airborne and has 198 jumps. It would be ALOT more if on 198 he hadn't shattered his knee and several other bones in his body and got assigned to desk duty. 20 years later he's way past due for another replacement

Sorry to hear about your husband's accident. I could spend hours defending what we do but choose not to. When done safely it is very rewarding.

I thought about it a lot when I was younger. My aunt and I were going to go, but could never get it worked out. Then I developed a fear of heights. Never got to do it. There are pics up of my husband from some of his jumps. There's also a framed centerfold from Skydive magazine. He had 5 digits worth of jumps. Jump masters are the most insane people in the world. Who else would jump from a perfectly good plane? I say if it's gonna land, serve me lunch and a cocktail and I'll see everyone else when we land. He did try to get me up there though.

He also made experimental parachutes. When I found out he jumped with them I told him he was the ultimate test dummy. He was so beat up from so many jumps and a couple of bad ones that he was in a lot of pain the rest of his life. That wasn't a good selling point for me.

He started jumping with Spec Ops in Vietnam and I guess the thin air got to him and made him crazy enough to keep doing it. Year ago he jumped as part of a couple of world record teams. I can't remember how many halos he jumped.

My kids and grandkids all want to jump. They have this crazy idea I'm going with them. Nope. So my youngest son was going to go up with my husband for his first time and get all his ground training from him. Now he says he's going to go to a couple of the drop zones we stopped at a few times when the crazy man was trying to talk me into going up with him. So I guess they are all set on doing an annual memorial jump. I'm staying on the ground with bandages and asprine. Actually might take up drinking and have that cocktail too.

Do you know there are people crazy enough to jump naked? There are. I knew one of them.

I have a list to do before i hit the bucket. I hope to do snorkeling, bungee jumping and sky diving once. I hope i do it soon.

Wolftracks, yes there are a few people that have jumped naked at the DZ we jump at. It's pretty funny but you won't catch me doing it! And have you noticed that most naked jumps are done when it is chilly out, go figure! Was it the POPS record attempt he jumped on? I do know a couple people that were on it. Instructors are definately top notch in my book. I received the first of my instructors ratings in April. I have learned more from teaching students then I ever did just fun jumping! I love to hear stories of people jumping and enjoying life!

Leemadison11, I am scared to death to try bungee jumping! If you ever get a chance to skydive you should! Just beware of scammers out there and be sure to purchase your skydive from the actual place you will be jumping. Take a drive out there, and check the place out and see how comfortable you are with their operation. Blue skies!

Don't know if it was even something anyone would know about, just know it was done several time. He always said the skydiving was the most fun you could have with your clothes on, but they were optional.

That is the saying around the dz, it's the most fun you can have with your clothes on! But skydiving was something that gave me a hobby all of my own. I needed something that I could do that was physical. It's a second family to me. Most of my friends that I had before I started jumping I no longer have, they just think it is silly. That for some reason, since I am almost 41, I should be sitting on the porch in a rocking chair, weird! I keep it from some people because, simply, they are not interested!

I bet, it sounds great... I'd probably chicken out as soon as I get up there though, I tend to exaggerate in my head the amount of terrifying stuff I'd be capable of actually following through with.

I've only gone once but loved it and highly recommend. Very thrilling - go tandem though if it is your first time!

I've been a few times...just static line. I wanted to work up to free fall, but the place we went was just too far away to go to regularly. Haven't been in 4 or 5 years though.

cjsgrl - I was about 40 the first time I tried it. When I took DH to try his first jump, he was 45. There was cute, steriotypically "sweet little old southern lady" there the first time I went down to jump. She was in her 70s and I was in the class with her grandson. He was there to do a static line jump, and SHE was there to do a tandem one!! That's the attitude I want to have when I'm in my 70s
