Chance heard this and trotted up. "Gemma is older then me! She can be left alone!" He cried, ignoring how his scratches burned.

Gemma stared up at her mother, horrified. "Never again?" she gasped, tears forming in the corners of her eyes. Her lip trembled. "Why? Why, mommy?"

She looked away from Chance, pleased that he had come, but embarrassed that he had to see her tears.

Layla led Gemma into the forest. She walked up to the vet's home, which Shadow sometimes stayed at. "Come Gemma.." she sighed, leading her into a stall, the vet closing the door behind them. Layla nuzzled Gemma, and laid down.
