Contrasting against the white background were little straw-colored spots that were extensively mottled all over his body, fading when they reached his upper body of the same color.

I had forgotten what Flip meant... I looked it up on BabyNames and discovered it means Lover of Horses in Dutch, otherwise a diminutive form of Philip. Interesting.
