Amiri grunted when he pressed his little hooves into the ground for support as he wobbled to his hooves, teetering when he stood for the first time. He began taking careful steps. He looked up from his focus on the ground to smile proudly at his mother before tripping over a small rock with his forelegs buckling, sending his cheek smearing into the dirt.
He stood there for a moment, eyes wide with shock. He felt stinging pain on his face. What was this sensation? Whatever it was, it was not a good thing. He began to whimper and straightened, gingerly standing back on his hooves, shaking out his mane and nearly falling once more after doing so. He looked at his parents with a calculating countenance.
