Hello,
6 week old flock of 6 birds just moved outside full time after a week of gradual adjustment. Flock consists of SL wyandotte, white cohcin, sussex, buff orpington, cuckoo maran and easter egger. My wyandotte seems a lot more confident than the others and will "patrol" the run, I got them from my pet chicken and i think the wyandotte was a little older when they arrived as she had some wing feathers. Wondering if her confidence could be age, personality, or if she could be a Roo? Her comb and wattle are very small and not red and I know its a bit early to tell but just wondering!

I wondered whether it could just be that she is top hen! I will try and get a good picture later, thanks

Thank you all so much, I was second guessing myself because I had read roosters are more confident when they're young! I am not adverse to having a rooster (its allowed but discouraged in my area).

My most confident chicken, to date (translated to "bossy bully") is a cochin bantam hen. Most of my boys have been pushovers ... with the exception of a Silkie who didn't like me (LOVED everyone else, but I'm the one who treated his pasty butt as a peep - who knew he'd remember that long?) and one Nankin bantam who "has it in" for shoelaces. He's fine as long as you're not wearing sneakers! So, no, personality is definitely NOT a gender indicator! :D
