Do you think she would like pulling a little cart? It would be fun for both of you i bet.
She would do anything I asked her to do. She is a rott, through and through, she would work until she died. But she was diagnosed heartworm positive in December and so right now I am just walking her. She is overweight, and that plus possible heartworms means I need to take it easy on her. I have had her under treatment since I found out, but can't retest until this December. She is doing great though. She walked 3.5 miles and took a nice bath in the river to cool off on our last walk.
When I take Fiona out for walks I have to watch her carefully for signs of fatigue. Her first sign is that she don't keep as much tension on the leash. This is not alarming as it usually means we are past that first frisky bit of excitement and she has settled into the walk. Her next sign is she will start to lightly scuff her back feet a little. This sign has me turning her around to come back to the truck. Her third sign is she can't walk a straight line. She usually does this the last quarter mile before we are back to the truck. I always carry a backpack with water for her and the kids, we stop and drink a lot. And whenever we see an easy entrance to the river we take Fiona in to cool off. We let her in deep enough to get the bottom of her chest wet, but never enough to go swimming. She would keep going if I let her, but when I see signs that she is tired I turn her around and bring her home. The idea is to gently build muscle, and lose fat. Not work her until she collapses, which she would do. She is a great dog.
