Good morning everyone. I always read this site, but now I finally joined. I am turning an Amish playhouse into my coop. Love it.
Initially, I put a cute ladder in, leading to the loft, for them to perch on. But they prefer sleeping in the loft. And they had problems getting down. After many ladder adjustments, I gave up & made a nice ramp, which they like. So much for the cute looking ladder.
Judging from other posts, it sounds like loft sleeping is acceptable. Am I correct with this?

Welcome to BYC!! "Loft" can mean different things so agree that a pic would be most helpful. I had a loft in my initial dog house re model that was not acceptable as a sleeping place because it had a "shelf" that they'd poo and cleaning it was way too hard. But a Truss that is acting like a roost bar could be okay.... So yea it depends. They will always go to the highest point so if you don't want them up there you'd want to "remove," it.

With me anywhere predator safe and not in the nests is acceptable. There is nowhere in mine where the poop would cause a problem. If the poop were piling up where it is inconvenient for me to clean it, or it was falling in an open nest or into food or water I'd change something. We have such different circumstances that any blanket "always" answer does not fit all of us.

:welcome Not certain what you mean by a loft. Can you provide pictures of your set up?
