Do chickens typically sleep with their head or beak tucked back "under their wing" or pushed into their feathers to keep their beaks and or combs warm?

Yes they will tuck their heads under their wings. Well from what I read they don't tuck, they rest their heads on the wings. (but it sure looking like tucking.) It helps with heat conservation and lets them rest their neck muscles. I notice they do it more when it is colder outside.

They appear to sleep in stages that might also related to how deep they are. When first starting to doze off they hold head close to body but otherwise looking forward. They are harder to sneak up on in that stage. The tucking of head under feathers on back close to wing is when the sleeping is deeper and the birds are easier to sneak up on. During the coarse of the night they appear to alternate back and forth between the two stages.

I can see most of this watching groups using game or time lapse cameras.
