Hi All, we got our first ever hens yesterday. Three Gold Tops that are 6 weeks old, their mum kicked them out early so the breeder said we could bring them home. They have a coop and run set up, and are being given growers pellets which is available all day as well as water. One of the chicks keeps trying to get underneath the others, and will also sleep with her head tucked under her wing through the day. The others are roaming around, foraging through the bark etc in their run. I'm worried she might be sick, but wanted to check with other owners their own experiences with such young ones.

Thanks!

When they change from one farm to another, they can be exposed to coccidiosis strains that they aren't immune to yet, especially since they are at the age where they are building immunity. Be on the lookout for increasing tiredness, lying around puffed up, and diarrhea, sometimes, but not always bloody. Amprollium or Corid would be the drug of choice. Outside of USA it may have to come from a vet.
