RIRs. They are great layers and have a good disposition. They also seem to have better survival instincts than many other breeds.

i love rhode island reds they just down to earth chickens great layers....but really n e chicken to me is a good chicken....lol

I have Barred Rock hens and Buff Orpington hens. The BR lay a med egg everyday, even all thru the winter so far. The BO lay a large egg almost every day some skip a day every now and then. The too have layed all thru the winter. I had a mean BR roo and have just replaced him with the sweetest standard cochin roo. They all are my pet and they follow me around outside.

My favorites have always been ameracauna's or just plain easter eggers - they seem to be an eccentric breed with very distinct personalities and they are very hardy (at least in my experience with them)
