Slime in Waterers

Pat is right, and since you like in Florida you have extra challenges even if the waterers are in shade. I bet the bacterial/algal growth rate is far higher than we ever witness, here!

And some algae is toxic to chickens.

I bought a scrubber that has a soap container on it and bristles to clean with.
You press down and the soap dispenses a little at a time.. Small enough to hold in the hand and gets into the crevices... Great to have when filling waterers.
.Just give them a quick scrub, rinse and fill....

That is what I use is one of those scrubies with the handle on it with antibactia soap in to wash everytime I change there water which is daily...like someone said may be because live in Florida..I know they love clean fresh water...spoiled rotten I would say. Thanks everyone.

GREAT THREAD.............slime in the drinking water is everyone's problem and I like to eliminate hassles. I'm going to collect rain water off the coop....empty it into barrel and connect automatic waters up....slime can be a big problem over time.
