Slipped Achille's Tendon?

I'm sorry about your pullet:hugs

I do agree it looks like she is suffering from a leg bone deformity.
Regardless of the cause, I don't think it can be splinted and corrected.

The lethargy is what is more concerning. If she is having trouble getting around and being picked on, I would watch to make sure she is getting to eat and drink. Sometimes if a bird is terrified of their flockmates, their health will decline.

Can you cage her inside the coop or safely within site of the flock where she is warm and sheltered from wind/elements? Caging her will let her rest and have time to eat/drink. Sounds like she is stressed. I would direct dose her with poultry vitamins (poultry nutri-drench/poultry cell) at 1cc per 3 pounds of weight.

You can check her pelvic bones to get a better idea if she is getting close to laying. From what I understand EE's can be slow to mature. Winter solstice will be coming soon so days will gradually get longer so she may start laying then.

Hope she starts feeling better soon, please keep us posted.

Thank you, Wyorp Rock.
This morning, I literally never saw her come out of their dog house once. She looked so miserable. I do not want her suffering, so I may have to have her put down, after all.

But now that you mention it, since the sikies should be moving out of the big coop shortly (hopefully tomorrow), then Hope can be in their former spot...that way she'll have her own food, water, shelter, and be around the others, while not being able to be bullied. Thanks again. :) But if she doesn't improve... :(

I would be good if you can put her where she can see the others, but have her own food/water - see if that makes a difference.

It's concerning that the leg seems to be worse since it's gotten colder. It could also be that she is gaining weight and the leg is painful to support her as well. You just never know. If she is by herself and can't roost, then you will need to make provisions that she has protection from wind and extra bedding to snuggle into as well.

I know you will do the right thing by her. :hugs

Yes, she's now separated from them by chicken wire. She ate some crumbles, and was probably hungry! But a bit later, her "energy" has left again and she's still lethargic...closing her eyes and her posture is drooping and her stance weak. She can barely walk...both her legs are weak. She's clearly suffering, and from what?, I have no idea, but my heart aches for my sweet girl. Tomorrow I shall humanely have her put to rest permanently, out of her misery. I just don't know what's wrong with her, and without that knowledge, then how could I help her? I'm pretty sure she's dying anyways. :-(

Since she ate some today, maybe you would want to give her a few more days, to see if she feels better. You could try some cooked egg. Is she having any runny poops that might be signs of coccidiosis or worms? Coccidiosis is treated with Corid or amprollium from a feed store. Dosage is 2 tsp (10ml) per gallon of water for 5 days. You could also try keeping her near her food and water in a crate to observe her. Since she has not started laying in 10 months, it could be that she is suffering from a reproductive disorder that is making her feel bad. But she also could have a shell-less egg that is stuck, making her legs weak. You could try inserting a finger into her vent 2 inches to feel for an egg. I really hope that she starts to improve.

:hugs I'm sorry she is not doing well.

I would try what @Eggcessive has suggested, just to see if she improves over the next couple of days.

Please let us know how she's doing.

:hugs Sorry I kinda forgot to keep you posted on her.

Thank you both for the help...I really appreciate it!

You were right; even though she was feeling really poorly, I guess if they're still eating, then that's probably a good sign...one to keep us hopeful. So I didn't put her down...and apart from keeping her separated from the other ones so they couldn't bully her, and giving her All Flock crumbles instead of layer pellets...she didn't get "treated" in any other way...no extra special treatment, and I didn't end up giving her any medication (I prefer the natural chicken-keeping ways, anyways), and slowly I started seeing the tiniest little improvement in her.

Now today, she's feeling great again, and seems totally back to normal :love (with the exception of her leg...that, of course, hasn't changed much, and it's still painful to watch her hobble).

Thanks again, guys!

That is good to hear that she is feeling much better. It would be good to see pictures and hear how she is getting around on her bad leg when you get time. Thanks for the update.

I'm glad to hear she is doing well!
Thank you for the update. I agree, photos are always welcome:)

I know it's been awhile since I updated you guys on Hope--and maybe is pointless to now--but I wanted to tell you guys she's doing very well, and at roughly a year-old last week, I believe, she laid her first egg! It is very beautiful...it's like a mint green, or sort of sky blue. :love I am so glad you guys thought I should give her a chance, when she was failing to thrive at that point in her life. To wait for her to finally lay an egg was SO hard, and such a long wait, but was SO worth it.

I love updates! They are not pointless and so many people read threads to gather information. Hope's story may give others Hope:hugs

So glad to hear she is doing well! An egg - Congratulations! I'm sure that was exciting to find and of course, it was worth it.
If you have photos you want to share of Hope and her beautiful egg, I would love to see them:)
