I think it is called a slipped tendon. He has had it since birth. His leg seems to be outside of his hip joint. Or just not being held into the joint by the tendon. He is a teenager rooster and I thought maybe it would be better overtime as he gets stronger but it looks like it is getting worse. Since he is bigger and heavier, he is not able to put any weight on his leg. It’s super awkward and he’s struggling to get around. Although he makes it to the food and the water, he has started to be bullied aggressively by the hens. Last night they cornered him and were attacking him, so I took him and brought him inside. Currently, he’s in my large dog crate. I just don’t know what to do. I have an appointment with the vet this afternoon, but honestly, I will probably cancel. It is very expensive.
I have never euthanized a chicken and wouldn’t even know how to do it. If I did, I’d probably do it wrong because I wouldn’t have confidence. Has anyone had a chicken like this before and what did you do?

Slipped tendon has to do with the Achilles tendon in the hock/ankle, not the hips.

Pictures are always helpful.

Ok. This is definitely where the leg goes into the hip.

He may have a dislocated hip. I had a young rooster, formerly the head of his whole flock, who continued getting worse with a leg injury, and we decided to put him down, because even the most tiny female chickens were attacking him. Removing the head with garden loppers or an ax is probably the quickest method of putting one down. It is never easy, but something we have to learn to do when one is injured or suffering. Do you have any friends or family members who hunt that might put him down? Sorry about your rooster.
