The vet said he’d used a type of flexible bandage that they use for small animals. The leg has been enveloped by the bandage and has allowed the leg to bend slightly as opposed to being held completely straight. The chick is hoping about happily and hadn’t needed to go in the chick chair. The other chicks are not hassling it in the brooder and aren’t even interested in the splinted leg. I’m guessing as they’ve seen her with various splints I’d made etc.
The vet was brilliant. I wish I had gone there straight away, however I was reluctant in case they just advised to cull without attempting to splint first. I have been to some vets with sick chickens and they’ve known very little about chickens. This vet was great though.
I’ve got another appointment booked for Monday night to reassess chick. Fingers crossed the tendon stays on joint. Just hope we’re giving it long enough.
