Slow Night Here In Quailville

HA HA... Boy is he gonna be disappointed....

They don't??

MOST DONT DO IT VERY OFTEN. MINE DO IT, BUT ONLY THIS TIME OF YEAR, OR WHEN YOU TAKE SOMEBODY OUT OF THE PEN. THE THOUGHT THAT BOBS GO AROUND CROWING LIKE COTURNIX ALL THE TIME IS A MISCONCEPTION. THE BOB- BOB WHITE! CALL IS A MALE LOCATOR CALL LIKE A THE CROWING OF COTURNIX ROOS. THE BOB WHITE IS AN ANSWER TO THE CROW. THE ONLY TIME BOBS DO THIS IS 1. JUST BEFORE BREEDING SEASON WHEN THEY ARE PAIRING UP, AND 2. WHEN A COVEY HAS BEEN BUSTED UP AND FRAGMENTED IN THE WILD AND THEY'RE TRYING TO FIND EVERYBODY AND GET BACK TOGATHER. WILD BOBS WILL ALSO USE THIS IN THE EVENING TO REGROUP THE COVEY AFTER A LONG AFTERNOONS FEEDING HAS CAUSED THEM TO SEPERATE. THEY DO HAVE A WHOLE HOST OF VOCALIZATIONS THAT ARE USED DAILY, BUT AT LEAST HERE WITH MINE THE BOB WHITE CALL IS NOT HEARD VERY OFTEN.

MIKE... MAYBE ITS JUST MY BUTLERS ARE TOO FAT AND LAZY TO DO IT? OR PERHAPS ITS BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL IN CLOSE PROXIMETY TO EACH OTHER..

May be lol
To keep them singing regular you are right though keep one male seperate from its buddies and he will sing more often
Spring I couldnt shut them up if I wanted to
They do have a very broad vocal vocabulary though
Now mine call more because they are on light still but would anyhow for spring
Its great to hear them in the middle of the night especialy when its still cold out lol

I guess I better go do some research on raising bobwhites.

JJ, got your shipment today! Perfect, not a one broke. I even had 14 of my own to add! This is gonna be an awesome hatch, I can feel it already. There were letters on some of the eggs. Uhm..there were some with a "t" on em and some with a "T" on them.. was the small t for tuxedo and the big T for tibetian? Or the other way around? In my drug addled state anything makes sense lol
jk I haven't taken anything today.. kinda sore but not as bad as monday

I always thought the bob bob white call was to call in the covey breeding female. Then when the female arrives, the roo drops the extra bob and calls bobwhite until he is satisfied the covey is accounted for or just plane tired.
That's for wild birds. What pen raised bobs do is anyone's guess.

T STANDS FOR TIBETTAN/ ROSETTA/TUXEDO PENS--- ANY SIZE T. G STANDS FOR GOLDEN PENS. B STANDS FOR BROWN. C WILL STAND FOR CINNAMON ONCE I HAVE ENOUGH TO OFFER EGGS. W WILL STAND FOR WHITE AGIAN ONCE I HAVE ENOUGH TO OFFER EGGS.

Pipping has started at 9:00 pm on my first ever incubation (day 16). I have 57 coturnix eggs. This is so exciting! I can't get the humidity above 57% which worries me a bit, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
