Quail chicks don't handle shipping well and it is very cold this time of year. I would order eggs and hope that they don't freeze.

Well, I decided I want another turner and I want a hatcher.

But I am going for the Genesis as my Hoova is older but still keeps popping them out. But the two will be completely compatable.

So I can use the new one as a bator and the old as a hatcher. Or I can use them both as bators and hatch a few more eggs at a time. Or Coturnix and Sicilian Buttercups both at once come Spring. Now, that I will want to do and I always hatch 40 Buttercup eggs at a time to pick my breeder hens from for the next year.

It's freakin' cold here! The windchill is going to be at least 20 below tonight. My birds can be so happy they are inside. Heck, I took pity on them. I'm running two heaters (on different circuits) in there now to warm it up. (I'm also heating the house to roasting hot, just because I can...and because that way, if power goes out, it's warm to start, at least. I have a gas furnace, but an electric blower. Also have a fireplace, but that only heats one room well.)

BTW, I won't be around much for a couple of weeks. Awfully busy with work related things right now...being on the computer is not much fun at the moment.

I had another of those monstrous eggs yesterday. Only 4 eggs though today, so far. I think she's taking a day off between the big ones. I would too, I think...

Is it a double yolker. If she's still doing it later, don't breed her. What am I saying you don't care. Well just wouldn't hatch and if it did by some miracle, would pass that trait on.

I've got 16 little Texas A&Ms in the brooder, don't know why, I like the easy sexing of the browns, but I just want to try them this time. These will be my starters for this years meat crop. So far my Bobs are tolerating the weather ok in the covered coops. My slatebelts are huge compared to my regular northerns, My georgia giants are still growing so I don't know how big they will get. My 4 cinnamons are about the same size as my northerns, but I sure love their color. I went out the other day after the temperature started dropping, and they were sittiing in a circle with their backsides together and their heads facing out. Reminded me of the pics of the muskox herds. My gamble pair look a little rough, I hope just the two of them are enough to make the winter.
