Slow Night Here In Quailville

I have to agree with you on the snakes but the snakes here seem to like my pens better than the woods.

more food, I guess.

Sorry to hear about your bird... Chances are he'll be back when he get hungry and your birds talk to him. Will still be hard to catch thou. you'll likely have to herd him like you would cattle, Shade him calmly in the direction you want him to go. Just crowd him up to tall grass or a place he cant move fast and he'll try to hunker down and hide... Then I throw my hat on'm like a net! Just had to do it to a chukar that did the same thing not a hr ago.... Bill

I just came in and it was under the cage but got away again. I have a net but from being outside it's dry rotted and has broken threads. Can't even keep a larger chicken in it so it's useless for a quail. I'll take smething out there to toss over it next time. It's in eye shot but i'm not going out there to get it.

Rebel, I am ready to collect them and make dinner out of them!

The week started with a raccoon pulling toes off my show rooster and he passed on. And then bobcats coming in the daytime and scaring the beejezus out of me. OH! and my dog got bit by a mocassin during the week so the anti venom wasn't inexpensive

Everything just went downhill for me. Just taking it easy with the birds.

I got that yesterday and sprinkled it under pens, around the barn, around the coops, around the house even. I may have gotten overboard a little and smell like mothballs but....

It seems like there is a lack of wild feed (for the bobcats and raccoons), they are coming in the daytime to eat mine...so electricity will stay on all day or I am getting a shot gun.

Just killed a rat snake about an hour ago...it was a good size. Probably 5 footer, was just swallowing an egg when I spotted him. I grabbed the hoe(which I keep at the door

) and pulled him out of the nest, put the hoe behind his and pushed out the egg..cracked it though..LOL He won't be getting any more of my eggs!

I have got 2 boxes of moth balls that I need to distribute around the pens.

I RECOMEND BOTH. OH AND YOUR PREDS LIKELY DO NOT HAVE A LACK OF NATURAL PREY... ITS JUST THAT YOURS ARE MUCH EASIER THAN THE WILD ONES RUNNING AROUND NEAR YOUR PLACE.... LETS FACE IT IF WE HAD TO CHASE DOWN A HAPPY MEAL AND BEAT IT TO DEATH BEFORE YOU ATE IT THE ATTRACTION TO IT WOULD BE DIMINISHED, BUT THAT DRIVE THRU WINDOW JUST MAKES IT SO MUCH MORE CONVENIENT AND APPEALING.... ALEX MY DEAR, YOU'RE THE DRIVE THRU WINDOW IN THIS CASE
