Slushie and Chubby are gone. gone forever

I am so sorry to hear this. I really HOPE it was not the Drake. When I lived in PA we did not have Many snakes but one got into my rabbit hutch and this Sounds similar. One bunny bloody and head missing but the other two were fine. This is terrible!

I'm so sorry that you lost slushie.

I've got 3 ducks too, and I separate the drakes from my one female. My drakes like to pester the poor girl to death, also my pullets and hens! I can't imagine a drake would kill his mate? Do you have Pekins too? Thats what I have. Someone on this forum also told me that the drakes are quite aggressive.

I hope you feel better soon. Loss of one of our babies is so very hard.
Again here are some

if her neck was raw with holes in it, it very well may have been a weasel or something in the weasel family.

your parents were very kind to assist in this. that's what makes a father a 'dad' and a mother a 'mom'.

i'm pretty sure that it was the drake, but i'm not sure. he had pieces of her skin in his mouth and the injuries were exactly were he mates her.

eta: when i went out, he was pecking at her neck.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have had ducks most my life in many breeds including wild and exotic species and will have to agree with the others. I dont see it possible for a drake to do this plus ducks are like chickens and not active after dark. He has a dull beak and toenails instead of talons. I have never had a drake do that much damage to a hen. It was definaltly a predator and sounds like he was just lucky to get away. Predators do return for the most part. Set a live animal trap in the pen after dark and I think you will have your culprit giving the drake back his innocence. I promise it was not the drake and if he is still in the pen he might be next. It is normal for the other fowl to pick at others injuries thats why you seperate the injured.
