Slushie and Chubby are gone. gone forever

I'm so sorry. I much prefer to find feathers. I hate to find them when a predator strikes.

How heartbreaking. I'm just so sorry to hear that. She sounds like a very special duck lady and I am glad the other ducks are ok.

Like Jeff said, them picking on an injured one is normal. I don't think her mate did this.

I have to agree with the others. The chances of your drake doing this are so remote that it is just not adding up. I say a mink or weasel as well. You had better keep a very close eye on your remaining ducks and I would step up security.

Sorry about Slushie.

Sorry about your loss. It doesn't sound like injuries a drake could make. Look for other possibilities in another predator - as stated before weasel or even a big rat. As far as the drake having pieces in his mouth - ducks are meat eaters, they are also opportunistic like chickens. Open wounds, blood - flesh eaters will feed in nature. Don't make the mistake of assigning human feelings and thoughts and tendencies on an animal just because he was her mate doesn't mean he won't feed off her carcass if given a chance.

well we have re-enforced the house, we practically are going to wrap everything in extra wire so if there are any gaps, whatever it is can't get it. tomorrow we will be setting up traps for whatever it is that did this. we got slushie back from the vet, and she doesn't look the same. she's not the happy, healthy duck she always was. we will be burying her tomorrow. i miss her so much, and all the boys are sticking real close together, they seem to know. they all loved her so much, and i really think they know that she's gone.
