Slushie and Chubby are gone. gone forever

They could have led to problems all on its own. You said you had 1 female and 3 males? They don't pair up like geese, they will mate with whatever. Also, a weasel could have attacked it chased off by the drakes then the drakes cold have seen blood and finished her off. birds get like that.

She may have been injured initially by a predator, but your having 3 drakes to one duck may have sent her over the brink. They will have wanted to mate her while she was down and unable to fight or get away. That is likely what your drake was doing to her when you found her, not trying to get her up.

I advised you a while back to get rid of 2 of the drakes and get a couple ducks in their places because overmating will cause injury.

I am sorry you lost her.

Duckcrew had this duck with only one of the drakes as I understand it. She was trying to find a way to get the ratio right and had posted about that many times.
I'm so sorry this happened, I know we have predators that I was unaware of for the better part of a year. I just happened to be with the ducks the first time the fox jumped in the yard or mine would have been injured or killed too. Having these vulnurable creatures living outside can lead to some devastating situations. That is the way nature is sometimes, harsh and cruel at times.

i went out and i just saw feathers everywhere and a huge clump sitting there and i just broke into tears. the other two drakes were sitting in their pool and not making a sound. they are never like that. and chubby was nowhere to be seen. we've searched and searched and we can't find him. we moved the remaining boys into the garage for the night so they are safe. i can't believe this is happening. i am going to catch whatever is doing this and i am going to kill it.

Duckcrew, I am so sorry for your losses

You've had a traumatic day. I hope your two remaining boys stay safe and good luck finding whatever it is that's out there!

i am still praying that chubby is okay out there somewhere. he's a big boy and i didn't see any blood. not even on the feathers. i'm just hoping he's okay. slushie was such a good girl and chubby's such a good duck, i just want him back. i wish this was just a nightmare and i'd wake up in the morning and they'd be fine, all of them. i have slushie's and chubby's eggs in the incubator. they are set to hatch in about 5 days. i just want my babies back.
