SLW has swollen area under waddles

She could possibly have a peck wound that has abscessed or a cyst. Wattles can swell from early frostbite. Swollen wattles can also be a symptom of infectious coryza and rarely Mareks disease. Here are 2 links to read: inks to read :

Thank you, I've got her in the car and we're off to Dr. Klaich. The chicken Dr. is in today!

I had to leave her there. He took a needle to get some fluid out and it was really hard. She started to bleed.

He said to leave her and they would need to lance it and start her on antibiotics and then they would know what it is. I go back at 1:00 to pick her up. Gosh, I hope it's not fatal.

Is having straw in the run ok? Since the grass that was in there is gone now, I put down straw so they have something besides dirt. Their "yard" is green grass. I use shavings in the coop, straw in the nests and just started laying straw in the run about a month ago.

The vet said she had an infected lymph node. No reason as to why or how, just was. She is going to spend the night there and I'll pick her up tomorrow. She was up and eating and cleaning herself, so he thinks she will be ok.

I brought her home this morning. She is acting fine, but the area is still enlarged although not as big as yesterday. I have antibiotics to give her twice a day. The others are picking on her as I thought they might. I'm keeping her out in the yard and them in the run. Then I'll switch it so they all get some yard time. Tonight I will put her in a large box in the garage. I'll put something in it for her to roost on, water and feed. I go back to the vet on Thursday for a follow up. Still a little concerned about her though. She is drinking a lot of water.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully the antibiotics will help the swelling go down. You may want to give her some probiotics in her water after the antibiotics are completed. Probios Dispersible Powder can be found in feed stores, and a newer on Gro2Max is found online through Amazon.com.

Never thought of that, but I am going to the feed store tomorrow for dog food so I will get some. Thanks so much for the help! Getting her to take the antibiotics was not real easy. I hope we get better at it! I watched a video on You Tube! The vet showed me as well, but he did it so much faster! The other girls stopped picking on her and they all went in to the coop together tonight, so I think she will be ok. I do have a nice triage box set up now, so if we need it, it is there.
