Twice now I have noticed a small black speck on the yoke of eggs when I cracked them open. I have four golden comets who just started laying these eggs in the past week. Somebody explain this one to me. Thanks

Thanks that is a good source of information but what they describe as "meat spots" doesn't really fit. This is a black speck best I can describe it is it would be about twice as big as a grain of course ground pepper. You don't have to look for it it stands out well in that yellow yoke. If I get another one I will post a picture of it. According to that article meat spots are usually brown in color and larger. Also meat spots tend to be found more in older birds. These pullets are just over 21 weeks old so I don't know.

Thanks Kate. I figured it was something to do with them so early in the egg laying process. First time I found it I thought something had got on the egg after i cracked it open. But trying to remove it I realized it was a part of the yoke. Kinda embedded in the yoke. I might add I have no roosters. Next time I will post a picture.
