We picked up 6 Black Copper Maran chicks and 3 light Brahmas over the weekend. They are probably 5 days old now.
One of the BCM is very small, which is becoming more apparent as the other chicks are already putting on size. Her wings are disproportionately small compared to her body size and stick out a bit from her body instead of laying flush when she’s tucking them against herself. She has a horrible case of pasty butt I’m working on and her little tail bump is pretty much non existing. She has a tiny, tiny bit of tail floof but mostly just a few strands whereas the others have an actual, visible tail. Under her vent is a white bulge that is slightly red around the edges and pulses. Maybe normal and just visible because her down is oiled right there from removing the poo. Her head is a little…pointier than the others?
She eats and drinks and runs around just fine and has been holding her own with the other chicks. She actually seems a bit smarter than the others . But something is clearly wrong with her. Wondering if anyone else had a similar chick and what the outcome was?
We had a disabled silkie chick we kept in our room for several months until she was stable and she did great for 5 years in our flock and definitely showed much bigger birds who was boss. I’m hoping Tiny Chick will do the same so please don’t suggest culling her. As long as she’s doing chick things and not in pain, she will be living out her life as comfortable as we can make it. Just want to get an idea of what to expect if possible.
